I've less of a beard these daysI’m John McGarvey, and I’m a copywriter. I write - mainly but not exclusively - for the web. I’ve worked for large and small companies and freelance. So I’m pretty versatile.

Don’t let the picture put you off. Usually I shave more often. Actually, that’s a lie. These days I shave when people start commenting on my beard.

This blog exists because:

Before it started, I was nowhere on Google. If you put my name in, you got a Dreamweaver guru, a Professor of Chemistry and some sort of Bible study expert. I didn’t make an appearance. In these enlightened days of employers Googling job candidates before making an offer, that wasn’t really good enough for someone who claims to know a bit about the internet. So this blog appears to have propelled me to the top of the list, at least for now. And I’m glad to be above the Bible expert, who died in 1911.

I’m forever noticing things I want to write about, but rarely got round to putting fingers to keyboard. Now I’ve no excuse.

It’s good practice. Here I can write about anything that interests me. And I’m the editor too, so I can say what I like.

I’m based in Reading but I like trains so London is easy to get to. Much of the South-East and even the Midlands is doable too.

Now for the bit that makes me sound like a balanced individual. Writing isn’t the only thing that interests me. I’m a sucker for good music, whether live or recorded. I love to read and have acquired a mild strain of the travel bug, which a 4-month trip through Europe, Russia and Japan seems to have cured for now.
