I think it refers to the effects of smoking on the gums and teeth.I recently went to the dentist and was asked "do you smoke" yes I replied. " have you smoked before coming here today?" "yes" I said. "Well" said the dentisit "smoking takes the blood away from the gums.So its hard to tell how bad the effects of smoking have been on the gums". I know this is not at all interesting but it may be an answer.

I like the fact that the 'PLEASE' is in caps - pure desperation ringing in their voice.

Surely it's romance related. Maybe a dishy fella was buying some fags on the way to the dentist and it started off a conversation.

Sheesh, it sounds like the start of a dodgy Richard Curtis film, with Hugh Grant playing the hapless cigarette smoker and a too-good-looking-to-be-working-in-a-newsagent Scarlett Johansson behind the counter...

Virgin Media's copywriting is a real breath of fresh air. It's personable and friendly, yet gets the information across.

But I know what you mean about the van. It's like the University's 'safety bus' that took out a lamp post one evening.

A really interesting find John. Unfortunately - and I say unfortunately, coz I'm really not a DM fan - is that they've got their finger on the pulse of how so many people thing in this country. A friend of mine who works for the BBC said that when working out what are the main topics of the day for BBC News, they pick up a copy of the Daily Mail in their news meetings. Which is more than a little bit worrying.

Great blog btw ;-)

Yikes! a bit harsh.

We have a very small population, and are an 'advanced' nation (hence use alot of electrickery), so per capita, probably, yeah. There aren't many of us here.

We also have a very pro-environment govt now who signed up to Kyoto straight away etc etc. The Howard govt was more into business than environment. This govt is more balanced. China and India are pretty bad atm for the environment... and will get alot worse... they have a hell of alot more people there to pollute with.

I've used a few of the services you've mentioned, and so far haven't booked through them. I've found out which carriers are offering the cheapest fare via those sites, then go to the airlines pages direct, which are often cheaper.
